Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has advocated for an expanded road toll system to finance the improvement of the country’s road network.
To facilitate the implementation and promote acceptance of the divisive electronic transactions tax, Ghana eliminated road tolls in 2022. The Vice President, who was visiting the Volta Region, stated that a more expansive reinstatement of the tolling system would generate the necessary funds for infrastructure development.
During his first meeting with the clergy in the Volta Region, Dr Bawumia addressed the concerns of the populace over the poor quality of roads.
The Vice President was accompanied by members of the NPP leadership, including the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and Mr. Stephen Ntim, National Chairman of the NPP.
Before travelling to the Oti Region on Friday, Dr Bawumia held meetings with representatives of the Muslim community and the Volta Region House of Chiefs. He also planned to interact with young people at a conference held at the Ho Technical University.
