Techiman Yams Market Business Collapsing

 

The Techiman Yams market is at the verge of collapsing due to the declined number of people visiting the market. The outbreak of Coronavirus Pandemic has attributed to this mishap.

The Yams sellers queen mothers, Maame Grace Opoku speaking to Nkyeremu News said without the support from the government, their business would eventually collapse.
She said their daily sales demand has reduced by over 70 percent.

She added that they have more stock of yams at the various farming communities also decaying.

The yam sellers queen mothers, Maame Grace Opoku said, they credited the yams from farmers who are demanding their money badly.

The worst situation is that about 30 percent of their yams keep rotting as the yams have been kept for too long, the queen-mother lamented.

She pleaded with the government to give financial support to the Techiman Central Yams Sellers Association.

The assistant yam sellers queen mothers, Sussana Awisaa said Techiman been the hub of yams in Ghana still have plenty in their stock and pleaded with their customers to come and buy without fears.

She said they have been observing the social distancing protocol.

Nkyeremu News team observed there are plenty of yams at the market with very low patronage.
