The drivers say the attack is the latest in a series of incidents that have threatened their livelihood and made them scared of transporting passengers to Bawku and other parts of the North.

The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the persons who shot into the bus and set it ablaze. One person was killed and several others were injured in the attack.

The incident has caused panic among the drivers at the Suame bus terminal, who say they are now being targeted by people who want to prevent them from travelling to Bawku and other areas of the North.

One of the Chairmen at the bus terminal, Anasara George Akolgo says the incident has left drivers devastated.

“All of us were very shocked by what happened in Walewale because we had loaded the bus yesterday evening bound for Bawku, and it was attacked in Walewale and the people even followed the bus to the police station and burnt it, and we don’t understand why anytime there is a problem in Bawku, then the Walewale people begin to misbehave with us.”

“We have suspended services to Bawku, and we want the government and the IGP to step in and solve it amicably because what is happening is intimidation to us because most of the drivers are panicking.”

He also alleged that some people are now going from one station to the other tracking travellers to Bawku and attacking them during the journey.

A young Nigerian influencer known as Austa XXO lost her life after her boyfriend reportedly stabbed her during an argument. The details of this unfortunate murder are still under police investigation.

According to local media, the incident occurred last weekend in Mbagassina Subdivision in Mbam and Kim Division of the Center Region of Cameroon but the photos and information only circulated days after, because of the absence of connectivity in the area.

It was gathered that the two brothers engaged in a bloody fight over the young girl who is barely a teenager.

“One of the brothers (the deceased) claimed the girl was his girlfriend. He had been suspecting his brother had something to do with his girlfriend because of their closeness,” Gildas, a witness told a journalist on Thursday, July 6.

“Before the fight started, one of the brothers had searched for the girl to no avail, only to pass by the road and met her with the brother. So he questioned the girl about what she was doing there, and the brother tried to intervene and defend the girl,”

“He now got enraged, got to the house, grabbed a machete, and attacked the brother. The brother hurriedly got a knife around and retaliated by killing the brother. That was how he died,” Gildas added.

The two brothers were severely injured, but the one who was stabbed in the chest died on the spot.

Samuel Kwesi Tsogbe, the 33-year-old evangelist was sentenced to six years imprisonment and Esther Christ, a 63-year-old prophetess was put away for five years.

Charged with stealing, Tsogbe and Esther, self-ordained pastors of Cornerstone Ministry International, pleaded guilty.

The accused persons were said to have travelled from Kpando to Accra to offer prayers to the bedridden lecturer.

During their stay at the lecturer’s house, the duo siphoned the money from his account.

After stealing the money, Tsogbe and Esther opened an account at another bank and channelled the stolen funds into the said account.

They also sent away the 72-year-old lecturer’s housekeeper, whom they claimed was the cause of the victim’s predicament.

Police investigations showed that the accused persons had bought a tipper truck, and a Hyundai Might 2 vehicle and rented a shop in the Oti Region.

Tsogbe told the court to forgive him as he did not know his action would turn out this way.

“I apologize for this; I have learnt my lesson.”

Esther also informed the court that she was a foreigner and that she came to Ghana through another prophet.

“I am sorry for my actions,” Esther told the court.

The court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah convicted the accused persons on their own pleas.

The trial described the accused persons conduct as “unpalatable.”

The court was not enthused with the way people were using spirituality to exploit the vulnerable, hence handing down a deterrent sentence.

It ordered the seizure of items purchased and owned by the accused persons.

The court also froze the account of Tsogbe and restrained him or other persons from withdrawing money from the said account.

The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo said the complainant, Margaret Dzandu is a teacher, residing at Kpando whiles the victim is a retiree residing at Danfa.

Chief Inspector Lanyo said the complainant is the victim’s niece.

The prosecution said the accused persons are self-ordained pastors of Cornerstone Ministry International, Kpando.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons also reside at Kpando.

It said 2022, the accused persons convinced the complainant that they had a revelation about her uncle’s predicament and persuaded her to send them to pray for the victim.

The prosecution said the accused persons occupied the home of the victim and thereafter sacked his housekeeper. They then engaged a new house help from Kpando.

Tsogbe and Esther then stay with the victim for five months.

On May 4, 2022, Tsogbe and Esther took the victim to NIB bank to withdraw GHC200,000 from his account. They also managed to steal the victim’s National Investment Bank (NIB) ATM card and Cheque Book.

On September 22, 2022, the prosecution said they started transferring monies from the victim’s NIB account to Tsogbe’s account till June 2, 2023.

The prosecution said during June 2023, the complainant visited the victim who needed money. The victim’s ATM Card and Chequebook were nowhere to be found in the house during a search.

It said the complainant’s preliminary investigations showed that the accused persons had stolen her uncle’s ATM Card and the chequebook.

The prosecution said the complainant reported the matter to the Police at Kpando and an extract was given to her to send to the Police at Ayi Mensah.

When the accused were arrested by the police, they admitted stealing the victims’ ATM and Cheque book and the same were retrieved from them.

A 35-year-old farmer has fired and killed his 48-year-old girlfriend for demanding an increase in chop money.

The incident happened at Breman Nkonya in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of the Central Region.

The suspect who is on the run, Kwame alias Otwea Amokua reportedly fired at Nkrumah, his girlfriend over a misunderstanding on chop money.

The girlfriend was only demanding an increment in chop money, as the amount given to her isn’t enough due to the constant rise in prices of consumable goods in the market.

The body has been kept at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue, while the suspect is nowhere to be found.

Offices of Ghana Police Service have retrieved the weapon Kwame used for the shooting incident.

The stunned drivers say they decided to drive out of Bawku with their perishable goods after the police refused to grant them escort out of the community.

Kwaku Karl, 44, the driver of the cargo truck, parked at Akomadan, survived the assault but lost his son, 22-year-old, Kofi Karl.

He narrates how the two of them lay on their side on the floor of the vehicle in an attempt to escape the rain of bullets.

“We laid low in the car to prevent sustaining wounds. I hid my head somewhere with my son’s legs on top of me. Sadly, he sustained some bullets and could not survive. This is just how we positioned ourselves” he stated.

“The car leading the team is mine. Unfortunately, I lost my driver due to the incident even after putting in much effort to rescue them” he said.

One of the victims, Haruna Issah has more. “They chased us right after we got into the community. After releasing multiple gunshots at us, we were forced to hide under the car seats but even with that, my driver could not survive and my other mate, is receiving treatment”
