People can&#8217;t access potable water, power in their homes and for domestic uses. The price of cement and all building material will increase.<\/p>\n<p>They called on the government to immediately do something about the increments, as announced by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC), effective February 1, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-24219\" src=\"https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-05-19-at-2.20.03-PM-300x212.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"692\" height=\"489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-05-19-at-2.20.03-PM-300x212.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-05-19-at-2.20.03-PM-100x70.jpeg 100w, https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-05-19-at-2.20.03-PM.jpeg 429w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The PURC announced the increment of electricity and water tariffs by 29.96 percent and 8.3 percent respectively, attributing it to the unstable exchange rate, rising inflation, generation mix, and the weighted average cost of natural gas.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in an interview with the nkyeremu news, the residents said they were unhappy and disappointed in the PURC, saying \u201cGhanaians are already struggling with the hikes in the prices of goods and services.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"lsm lsm-post-inline lsm-float-center lsm-align-center lsm-column-1 lsm-clearfix no-bg-box-model\">\n<div id=\"lsm-232205-1345336692\" class=\"lsm-container lsm-type-code \" data-adid=\"232205\" data-type=\"code\">\n<div id=\"lsm-232205-1345336692-place\">Mr Kwame Agyemang, a public servant stated, \u201cIncrease in fuel prices and depreciation of the Ghana cedi to the US dollar hit Ghanaians hard, and as we tried to recover only hear the unpleasant increment in utility service.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cOr is it because the government increases the base pay by 30 percent that is why the PURC is also pushing the increment without considering the fact that prices of goods remain high\u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe average household electricity tariffs were raised from an initial GH\u00a220 to over GH\u00a270 and any increment again would make life tougher for the ordinary Ghanaian\u201d, Mr. Agyemang noted.<\/p>\n<p>Madam Hannah Osei, a trader, said, \u201cLife has not been easy at all and any increase in electricity and water bills would greatly worsen our living condition\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lsm lsm-post-inline lsm-float-center lsm-align-center lsm-column-1 lsm-clearfix no-bg-box-model\">\n<div id=\"lsm-232205-1525205641\" class=\"lsm-container lsm-type-code \" data-adid=\"232205\" data-type=\"code\">\n<div id=\"lsm-232205-1525205641-place\">\u201cAny upward adjustment is likely to affect everything, including the production cost of sachet and bottled water.
