The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has been set a 14-day deadline by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to release the allowances of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) employees.<\/p>\n

The decree follows the FWSC\u2019s decision to limit specific allowances since the commission deemed the token to be unjustified.<\/p>\n

However, GBC employees contend that because of the increased cost of living, they are entitled to the stipend, which covers, among other things, rent, housing, utilities, vehicle maintenance, and transportation. The Fair Wages Commission has been taken before the Labour Commission as a result.<\/p>\n

The Fair Wages Commission\u2019s action was deemed illegal by the NLC in a meeting with the FWSC, GBC employees, and the Ministry of Employment on June 7, 2023.<\/p>\n

The GBC employees had hoped that the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations would pressure the Controller and Accountant General\u2019s Department (CAGD) to reinstate the allowances after the meeting. They claimed that the removal was against natural justice.<\/p>\n

The workers appealed \u201cWe also pray that you use your good offices to prevail upon the CAGD to restore the allowances because the removal is a violation of natural justice as spelled out in the 1992 Constitution. It is also a grievous offense under the Labour Law, Act 651\u201d.<\/p>\n
