{"id":25153,"date":"2023-06-13T10:47:11","date_gmt":"2023-06-13T09:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/?p=25153"},"modified":"2023-06-13T10:47:11","modified_gmt":"2023-06-13T09:47:11","slug":"parliament-has-not-approved-ci-making-ghana-card-sole-registration-document","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/13\/parliament-has-not-approved-ci-making-ghana-card-sole-registration-document\/","title":{"rendered":"Parliament Has Not Approved CI Making Ghana Card Sole Registration Document"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Claims that Parliament approved the Electoral Commission\u2019s (EC\u2019s) Constitutional Instrument (CI), which intends to make the Ghana Card the only paper required for voter registration, has been debunked.<\/p>\n<p>Parliament stated that any such publishing is untrue in a statement that was signed by the director of public affairs, Kate Addo.<\/p>\n<p>In the release, it was made clear that \u201cParliament says categorically that it has not passed any such Instrument.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The press statement states that Constitutional Instruments are not passed by Parliament and that \u201cThey only enter into effect with the passage of time, i.e., after 21 days of the Instrument being placed in the House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-25154\" src=\"https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/accra-ghana-november-19-2020-260nw-1857822745-300x215.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"693\" height=\"497\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/accra-ghana-november-19-2020-260nw-1857822745-300x215.webp 300w, https:\/\/nkyeremunews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/accra-ghana-november-19-2020-260nw-1857822745.webp 390w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 693px) 100vw, 693px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Clarifying what ensued in the House on the 23rd of February, 2023, it stated that \u201cParliament held a pre-presentation discussion on the CI, to collect input from relevant sources for the drafting of the Constitutional Instrument (Cl).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They, therefore, urged the media to endeavor to be accurate in their reportage, adding that they can \u201ccontact the relevant authorities and officers in case of ambiguity or for further clarification on issues concerning or emanating from the House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the Electoral Commission moved to make the Ghana Card the only document accepted for voter registration in the nation in September of last year.<\/p>\n<p>The action incensed the Minority Group, who later rejected the CI on the grounds that it would deny electors their right to vote.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Commission maintained that it would register voters using the Ghana Card.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission decided to use the Ghana Card in creating a new voter database because the election management authority views it as the most authentic way to recognize Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>The Opposition in Parliament subsequently repeated on February 8 how strongly they opposed the use of the Ghana Card for voter registration.<\/p>\n<p>How can the EC use only the Ghana card to deny Ghanaians abroad who may come during elections time?
