The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) laments the delay in the Controller\u2019s payment of monies to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for distribution to trainees throughout the nation\u2019s Public Colleges.<\/p>\n
Following the recent release of GHS241 million for the payment of allowances to teacher trainees at the country\u2019s 46 public colleges for the 2022\u20132023 academic year, this is the next step.<\/p>\n
The trainees have not yet received their allowances, despite the monies being released.<\/p>\n
The TTAG stated the reason for the delay on Monday, June 26, 2023 in a statement that was also signed by its General Secretary John Edem Avedzi and President Jephthah Nana Kwame. \u201ccausing untold hardships to teacher trainees particularly on feeding and purchase of teaching and learning materials.\u201d<\/p>\n
The group stated: \u201cThe teacher trainee allowances serve as a key lifeline, helping trainees to cover their basic needs and lessen the financial strain of tuition fees, shedding further light on the hardships experienced by teacher trainees who currently endure the absence of their stipend payments.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, the prolonged delay in disbursing these allowances has left trainees in a state of distress and uncertainty,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
The association claims that its members have been \u201cpatient on this issue since the start of the academic year in January 2023 (5 months), but we cannot guarantee it if the funds are not released immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n
Consequently, it pleaded with the authorities to \u201curgently address the matter and ensure the prompt and seamless disbursement of the allowances.\u201d<\/p>\n
