The Chairman of Ghana Link Network Services Ltd (Ghana Link), Nick Danso Adjei says he\u00a0<\/span><\/span>welcomes the request by the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for\u00a0<\/span><\/span>executive<\/span><\/span>\u00a0access<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the Integrated Customs Management Systems (ICUMS) platform.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The ICUMS platform, known for its role in streamlining customs processes through a single-window system, has attracted attention from various stakeholders.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ghana Link\u2019s Chairman Mr\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Adjei,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>who is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the driving force behind ICUMS\u2019 implementation, expressed his openness to the OSP\u2019s interest in the platform.

He emphasized that the presence of the OSP would\u00a0<\/span><\/span>show<\/span><\/span> transparency\u00a0<\/span><\/span>on the part of all stakeholders<\/span><\/span>, ensuring the credibility of the platform.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI know they are sorting a few things like what specific information they need out with the GRA, but it is welcoming news<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to know that the OSP has shown interest to be on the platform and I think it is good to have him there. Our doors are always opened to all government agencies who show interest to come on the platform or use it to enhance their work,\u201d Mr Danso said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to him<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the National Security,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Ghana Immigration Services, <\/span><\/span>and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>all\u00a0<\/span><\/span>other relevant security agencies are already active on the ICUMS platform<\/span><\/span>, pointing out that having the OSP on the platform is good for business.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He, therefore, urged all stakeholders to remain calm and allow the Ghana Revenue Authority to meet with the OSP on the modalities in regard to what kind of access they need in the system.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Chairman Nick Danso Adjei\u2019s comments come after <\/span><\/span>OSP\u2019s request<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to the Customs Division of the revenue regulator<\/span><\/span>, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to be given executive access to the ICUMS.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We understand that at the moment, the GRA <\/span><\/span>has assembled a 9-member team tasked with engaging the Special Prosecutor in discussions about accessing ICUMS. This team aims to foster communication, address concerns, and provide clarification to the OSP regarding the request.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, t<\/span><\/span>he Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana has raised concerns about the sensitivity of the ICUMS platform, which houses valuable and confidential data of importers, exporters, and business operators.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association cautioned that any mishandling of data by the OSP could have severe repercussions for the business community.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In a press release dated June 15, 2023, the association demanded clarification from the OSP regarding the motives behind their sudden request and the specific data they seek to access\u00a0<\/span><\/span>from ICUMS. While asserting its commitment to supporting efforts to eradicate corrupt practices in the port sector, the association stressed the need to ensure the protection of sensitive information.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

However,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Nick Danso Adjei and Ghana Link, who welcome the OSP\u2019s access request to promote transparency,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>have called for calm a<\/span><\/span>s the GRA\u00a0<\/span><\/span>engages<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the OSP and stakeholders<\/span><\/span>\u00a0on<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the future direction of access to the ICUMS platform<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
