General Brice Oligui Nguema, the head of Gabon’s armed forces, will now only be paid as the commander of the republican guard, having renounced his income as president.<\/p>\n
After President Ali Bongo was overthrown in August of this year, he was appointed acting president.<\/p>\n
According to a junta spokesperson’s statement on Wednesday, Gen. Nguema made the choice because he was “aware of the social emergencies and many expectations of the Gabonese people”.<\/p>\n
