A 60-year-old queen-mother of Nloranza Abira in the Bono East region, Nana Ama Afriyie has emerged as the overall best Bono East regional farmer for the 39th Farmers’ Day edition. She was the first runner-up in 2022. The outstanding, hard-working queen-mother won the best with the distinctive records.<\/p>\n

She has 500 acres of cashew, 30 acres of mango, 30 acres of maize, 20 acres of yam and 20 acres of cassava. Another area of her record-breaking is livestock and poultry, she can boast of 300 local birds, 100 cattle, and 100 goats including 80 sheep among others.<\/p>\n

She has 100 casual workers and 7 permanent. She provides educational support to 20 needy students, she also supports the needy at the basic school pupils with school uniforms.<\/p>\n

The queen mother, Nana Ama Abira Afriyie says she developed an interest in traditional farming through her parents. According to her, she has been consistent in farming activities from her youth days.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media, she pleaded with women to support their husbands in farming and petty trading.<\/p>\n

In the special awards, 3 farmers were awarded from each district and municipality. Best farmers were awarded motor tricycles with farming imputes. The second-best farmers took home motorbikes in the joint 39th Farmers’ Day celebration in Kintampo. Other awards include TV and Top Fridge among others. In all, 38 farmers and agricultural officers were awarded.<\/p>\n

Surprisingly, an 80-year-old female farmer, Akousu Mariama was adjudged the regional best enterprising farmer. She was provided with farming imputes and a cheque for GH20,000 by the Bono East Cocoa Board.<\/p>\n

The overall municipal award of the Techiman municipal went to Zakaria Seidu the award was presented by, the MCE of Techiman, Hon Benjamin Gyarko. The overall regional best award was presented by the Techiman North NPP chairman, Hon Appiah Adjei Donkor. He commended the queen mother, Nana Ama Afriyes for her hard work.<\/p>\n

The Kintampo North member of parliament, Hon Joseph Kwame Kuma known as Jakala in his address, called for cattle ranching in the region to ensure food security.<\/p>\n

The Mo chief of Kintampo who chaired the occasion, Nana Kwaku Dankwaa Duah, pleaded with the government to reduce farming products to ensure massive production.<\/p>\n
