The people of the Techiman Akwamu Royal Family in the Traditional Area of the Bono East region have celebrated their annual Yam Festival in a typical old tradition. The yam celebration was unique and touching when compared to other yam festival ceremonies observed in recent times. The Akwamuhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Nana Owusu Gyare II says there is no reason why the Yam Festival celebration should be branded in the modern style.<\/p>\n

The chiefs and queen mothers of the Techiman Traditional Area came in their numbers to grace the occasion, which lasted for two days. The Akwamu family use the festival to honour their ancestors with drinks and food. After the sacrifices were performed, they settled disputes among themselves and tacked developmental projects like their new palace. Thereafter, drinks and traditional food solely cooked by males were shared. People couldn’t remain in their seats when the Kate Group and high-life songs were played, Nana Owusu Gyare was not an exceptional personality<\/p>\n

The representative of the Techiman Traditional Area, Nana Stephen Akumfi Ameyaw at the occasion pleaded with Ghanaians to avoid political fights and shootings. He says Ghanaians need peace more than any other political party.<\/p>\n

Nana Owusu Gyare II pleaded with the youth not to accept any offer from any political party to lead in violence. He says they will face any danger when gripped by the law. He praised his people for their unity and understanding at all times. Nana condemned the delay of the Techiman municipal presiding member, which had delayed the implementation of the assembly’s developmental projects. He congratulated the newly elected PM, Hon Frimpong Kwaku Isaac. Nana urged the PM to speed up since there are more issues on the table. He is also the Head of the English Department at the Techiman Senior High School.<\/p>\n

Nana Owusu Gyare pleaded with the politicians not to repeat the calamities of the 2020 general elections, where people were shot dead and several others injured.<\/p>\n

Nana announced that next year, the Yam Festival of the Akwamu Royal Family will be held in their new palace, which will be in a grand style than ever before.
