The Busia family has inaugurated the Ama Bame Busia Diabetic Memorial Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing diabetes research and management in Ghana. This initiative commemorates the one-year anniversary of the passing of Nana Amma Serwaa Bame Busia, a distinguished stateswoman and daughter of former Prime Minister Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia.<\/p>\n
The foundation aims to address the growing prevalence of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases through comprehensive strategies encompassing research, education, and community outreach. Madam Tina Nana Afia Achaa Ofori-Atta, the foundation’s solicitor, emphasized its mission to produce medical professionals specializing in diabetes care and to support the underprivileged, particularly vulnerable children and youth, in pursuing their education and achieving academic excellence.<\/p>\n
Through thorough research, the foundation can help those suffering from diabetes and other non-communicable diseases to access the necessary support and manage their lives well. She highlighted the foundation’s commitment to early detection, prevention, and promoting healthy lifestyles as key components in combating diabetes.<\/p>\n
The foundation has established partnerships with the Wenchi Methodist Hospital and the Wenchi Municipal Education Directorate to facilitate its programs. Mr. Akwasi Agyemang Busia, a family member, noted that the foundation serves as a legacy of the late Nana Amma Busia, reflecting her vision to spearhead healthcare delivery services in Ghana.<\/p>\n
Mr. Alexander Kwaku Kyei, Chief Executive Officer of the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, underscored the importance of early detection in managing diabetes and other non-communicable diseases. He urged the public to prioritise their health and adopt healthier lifestyles to prevent such conditions.<\/p>\n
The launch event in Wenchi was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including politicians, clergy, traditional authorities, and Muslim scholars, demonstrating widespread support for the foundation’s objectives.<\/p>\n
The Ama Bame Busia Diabetic Memorial Foundation aspires to be a catalyst for change in Ghana’s healthcare landscape. It honours Nana Amma Busia’s legacy by striving to alleviate the burden of diabetes and improve the lives of those affected.<\/p>\n
