A team of US neurosurgeons has completed a weeklong surgical mission at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman in the Bono East region, providing free operations for 25 patients with brain tumours, abdominal swelling related to neurosurgical conditions, and spinal cord disorders.<\/div>\n

The medical delegation, which included 10 neurologists and specialist surgeons, screened 75 patients in total.\u00a0 25 underwent surgical procedures at no cost to the patients. The in-charge of the neuro, Dr Christian Coompson said that all operated patients are responding well to treatment and remain under close observation by the local medical team.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nDr Sara Jernigan, leader of the US team, told Nkyeremu News that several non-governmental organisations in the United States funded the mission. She said the group spent roughly $100,000 to cover surgical supplies, travel, and related expenses for the intervention. Dr Coompson said the hospital administration and clinical staff have put systems in place to monitor these patients closely and ensure their conditions remain stable. For those requiring more advanced or specialised care beyond the hospital\u2019s capacity, the US team leader indicated plans to refer them to teaching hospitals where appropriate treatment can be provided.<\/p>\nThis marks the fifth visit by the US neurologists to Holy Family Hospital. Dr Jernigan praised the hospital\u2019s commitment to patient welfare and expressed a firm intention to return to Techiman next year to resume collaborative care and surgeries.<\/p>\nHospital officials thanked the visiting clinicians and supporting NGOs for their contribution to local healthcare capacity and patients’ access.
