The Bono east region is going all out into serious processing of food for local consumption and export in the next 5 years. The region has reached an advanced stage in commercial rice cultivation. Already, the region is leading in the mass production of mango, cashew, watermelon, and tomato among others.<\/p>\n

The Bono East regional director of agriculture, Cecelia Kaja disclosed this new social intervention when addressing the media in Kintampo at the farmers’ mini trade fair.<\/p>\n

Cecelia Kaja commended the Bono East regional minister, Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan for pushing for the all-year-round commercial rice cultivation and processing. She was optimistic that in less than five years the region will start processing the above-mentioned crops to create jobs and give value to the raw produce to meet maximum profit.<\/p>\n

Cecelia Kaja says over 80 percent of the people in the Bono East region are into farming but their fear to go into large-scale farming becomes a challenge due to marketing. She gave assurance that, in about five years’ time, there will be more factories in the region to process farm produce.<\/p>\n

She says marketing of the cassava which used to be a challenge is now becoming a history since many communities have switched to gari processing. Petty mango juice processing is also helping boost the industry.<\/p>\n

The regional director, Cecelia Kaja is optimistic that the farmers in the Bono East region have a brighter future and calls for more investors to join the trail.<\/p>\n
