Records from the MTTD police, the Ambulance Service, and the medical reports indicate, about 20 percent of accident victims die due to mishandling and transporting victims to the health centers.
The alarming rate of losing accident victims due to technical knowledge in Ghana has compelled the St John Ambulance under the Ghana Ministry of Health, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Tourism Authority in the Bono East region to organize a day intensive first aid workshop to educate the hotel workers.
The Bono East regional commander of the St John Ambulance Service, Joseph Donkor engaged the 31 hoteliers in a very practical way of rescuing accident victims.
Joseph Donkor said safeness is mandatory and challenged everyone to get involved to know at least the fundamental basis of first aid. He said the aim is to help and educate every Ghanaian to have prior ideas of first aid.
The Bono East regional director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Joseph Appiah Agyei speaking at the occasion said, there is a need for every hotel management team to have first aid training and if possible a clinic in their facility to attend to emergency cases before referring the patient to a hospital.
Another key area that was addressed was engaging well-trained security personnel to take care of every hospitality industry.
