The three Bono regions contribute over 80 percent of illegal migration in Ghana. Statistics show that many of the youth who are being entrapped in the sea seeking greener pastors are mainly from the Bono, Bono east, and Ahafo regions. Most of the victims who died were located in the Jaman south, Berekum, Techiman, Kintampo, and Nkoransa being their hub.

The statistics show, the ages 15-35 mostly engage in irregular migration in Ghana. It is on record that, the death toll among Ghanaian youth seeking greener pastors exceeds any  African country.

The unfortunate situation has compelled the Agrico Hub, a non-governmental organization in the Bono East region, to create job opportunities for the youth in the region to curb the menace. Since the establishment of the Agrico Hub in 2019, they have provided job opportunities for 1,420 youth with financial support.

The Agrico Hub has linked its trained personnel to some financial institutions for grants. Abigail Oteng Marfo, the Community Associate of Agrico Hub said, there are several social interventions like free training in the ICT, marketing, and more for their trained youth.

Statistics show many of the youth who would have risked their lives in the region are now self-employed.

Nkyeremu News gathered this information at the Agrico Hub’s yearly intervention with the stakeholders meeting at the Valley View University Assembly Hall in Techiman of the Bono East region.

Agrico Hub organizes free workshops every month at their headquarters in Techiman.
