A young and determined female cassava farmer has publicly appealed for a spot payment buyer to help her clear outstanding debts owed to her farmworkers. The farmer, who has invested heavily in cassava farming, expressed frustration that petty buyers purchasing in small quantities are unable to help her meet the full financial demands of running her farm.

In her statement, the farmer emphasised that while small-scale buyers provide some income, their limited purchases fall short of covering the total expenses she has incurred, especially wages owed to her laborers. She stressed the urgent need for a spot payment buyer who can make a lump sum payment for her produce, enabling her to settle these debts quickly and maintain operational stability.

Beyond clearing debts, the farmer highlighted a larger vision: partnering with a reliable buyer, ideally from the United States, could help her expand her farming business. Such a partnership would create more job opportunities for people in rural communities, fostering economic growth and reducing unemployment in the area.

The farmer’s appeal draws attention to a critical issue facing many rural agricultural producers limited access to buyers who can provide upfront payments or bulk purchases. This challenge affects their cash flow, ability to pay workers on time, and ultimately, the sustainability of their farms.

She urged prospective buyers to recognize the mutual benefits of working directly with farmers. Spot payments allow farmers to manage their finances better, invest in improved farming techniques, and provide steady employment for local workers. Buyers, in turn, gain access to fresh produce supplied through trustworthy and direct partnerships.

This call for support comes at a time when improving agricultural value chains and empowering farmers is essential for rural development. By securing a spot payment buyer, this cassava farmer aims to strengthen her business, support her workers, and contribute to the livelihoods of many in her community.

Her appeal reflects not only personal desperation but also the broader need for stronger buyer-farmer collaboration to boost agricultural productivity and rural economic resilience.
