Buoyemhene, Daasebre Ameyaw Kwarteng, has appealed to President John Mahama to expedite the rehabilitation of the seven-kilometre road network connecting Mesedan and Techiman, a pledge made during the 2024 election campaign. The chief emphasised the critical role this road plays in the socio-economic development of Buoyem and its surrounding areas. He said this when celebrating the yearly festival at Bouyem in the Bono East region.
Daasebre Ureges the youth to learn more about the rich Ghanaian culture. He pleaded with the traditional leaders to host more programmes on Ghanaian culture, like Bragro, among others.
Daasebre Ameyaw Kwarteng highlighted that Buoyem and its catchment area are significant producers of both cash and food crops, contributing substantially to the local and national economy. However, the current state of the road impedes efficient transportation of agricultural goods to markets, negatively affecting farmers’ livelihoods and the broader community’s economic potential.
During the rainy season, the deteriorated road becomes nearly impassable, forcing many residents to undertake long journeys on foot to reach their destinations. This situation poses serious challenges, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children, who must navigate difficult terrain daily.
Additionally, the Buoyemhene expressed grave concern about the increasing incidents of armed robbery along this stretch, which have put the lives and properties of commuters at great risk. He called for urgent government intervention to improve security and infrastructure, citing that the road’s deplorable condition makes it a hotspot for criminal activities.
The chief’s plea underscores the necessity for immediate action to not only upgrade the road network but also enhance safety measures for the community. He stressed that fulfilling the election promise would boost economic activities, reduce travel hardships, and restore a sense of security among residents.
Local opinion leaders and residents have echoed Daasebre Ameyaw Kwarteng’s call, urging the government to prioritise the project and allocate resources to rehabilitate the Mesedan-Techiman road. They believe that a reliable road system is vital for unlocking the full potential of Buoyem’s agricultural productivity and improving the quality of life in the region.
As the community awaits government response, the Buoyemhene’s message serves as a reminder of the unfulfilled commitments that are critical to regional development and citizens’ welfare.
