The Bono East region is set to experience a significant boost in its agriculture sector as the cashew factory is scheduled to commence full operations from June 2026. Honourable Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, assured farmers that this development will enhance the value chain and provide renewed opportunities for cashew producers in the area.
Speaking at the 41st Farmers’ Day celebration held in Mesedan, Techiman North, the Minister emphasised that the agribusiness sector will focus on processing perishable crops to increase their market value in the coming years. She stressed that the government plans to supply farmers with improved high-yield crop varieties to maximise production and profitability.
The minister also issued a call to the youth in the region to embrace farming as a viable livelihood option instead of risking dangerous journeys through the desert in search of better pastures. “We urge the youth to invest their energy in agriculture, which promises sustainable growth and income,” she said.
In a related development, Hon. Adom Johnson, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Techiman North, elaborated on the importance of climate change adaptation and agro-forestry during the event. He highlighted efforts to encourage environmentally friendly farming practices that will support food security and protect natural resources.
This new cashew factory will not only create direct employment but is also expected to stimulate local economies by increasing demand for raw cashew nuts and other related activities. The move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to industrialise agriculture and support agribusiness ventures across Ghana.
Farmers and stakeholders gathered at the event expressed optimism about the projected benefits of the factory, including steady income growth and enhanced export potential. The technology and resources coming into the region will improve cashew processing efficiency and quality, ensuring Bono East’s prominence in Ghana’s agro-industrial landscape.
With the official start date set for mid-2026, preparations are underway to ensure the factory’s infrastructure and workforce are ready to meet operational demands. This initiative underscores the commitment to transform agricultural production into profitable agribusiness ventures that empower rural communities.
