Deputy Chief Imam Khalid Umar Farouk has called on Muslims to carry forward the lessons of Ramadan long after the Holy Month’s fasting concludes, emphasising forgiveness, generosity, and love as enduring pillars of faith.

Speaking at the Eid Al-Fitr prayer session at Gyarko Senior High School Park, the Deputy Chief Imam declared that while the one-month fast of Ramadan has ended, true devotion demands ongoing spiritual discipline. “Prayer and fasting cannot be separated,” he stated, reminding the hundreds of Ahlussunna Wal-Jamaa members gathered that Eid Al-Fitr marks not an endpoint, but a renewal. “The fast may end, but the habits of piety must continue.”

Eid Al-Fitr, known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” celebrates the completion of Ramadan—Islam’s ninth lunar month, observed through dawn-to-sunset abstinence from food, drink, and negative behaviours. This year, Ramadan began around February 20 and concluded on Friday, ushering in Eid on Saturday. The holiday holds profound importance: it fosters self-discipline, empathy for the needy, and gratitude to Allah. Muslims break the fast with communal prayers, feasts, and charity (Zakat al-Fitr), ensuring that the poor can join the celebrations. Spiritually, it symbolises victory over personal weaknesses, purification of the soul, and recommitment to the Quran revealed during this month.

The Imam cautioned youth against drug abuse, highlighting its destructive toll on families and communities, and stressed education’s role in a tech-driven world. “As the world switches to technology, education is our shield,” he urged, calling for knowledge that aligns with Islamic values.

The event drew large numbers of chiefs, politicians, and residents, fostering unity amid Techiman’s vibrant Eid festivities. Attendees shared meals of fufu, jollof rice, and sweets, echoing themes of giving.

Imam Farouk’s message resonates amid Ghana’s growing Muslim population, promoting sustained piety for societal harmony.
