ANGRY CHAINSAW OPERATORS HOLD FORESTRY OFFICIALS HOSTAGE.

 

Angry chainsaw operators hold forestry officials hostage at Mpameso forest reserve at Kwadwomo krom in the Dormaa west district of the Bono region.

The angry illegal chainsaw operators threw misiles at the forestry officers for claim of against their illegal chainsaw activities.

In an interview with the Dormaa Ahenkro forestry Divisional manager Mr Ebenezer Mensah, says a gang of chainsaw operators armed with guns held their officers hostage during normal operation at the Mpameso forest reserve.

He says the gang led their officers From the forest reserve to Kasapin near Goaso in the Ahafo region which is very bad.

Mr Ebenezer Mensah mentioned that, the Officer needed a military intervention to escape from the gang at Kasapin.

According to the manager, Nkrankwanta, Kwadwomo krom, Santaso and Kasapin are very notorious communities, they always attacked forestry officers in the area.

Mr Ebenezer Mensah says the people over there are now using a tricycle to Covey the illegal lumbering from the reserve.

He says, the forest Division is now working with the military which is very expensive and difficult for them due to number.

He appealed to the chiefs and the general public to join hands together with the aim to protect the environment especially forest reserves.
