The unrealistic buying price of cashew in Ghana is causing fear and panic among the indigenous farmers, who don’t make any good returns from their expenditure. The government agreed with the foreign buyers to buy 100 kilos of cashew at GHC 850. This fixed price stood for a while and now dropped to 100 kilos to GHC 3.00.

The cost involved in picking the cashew seeds alone costs a lot. This has compelled many of the farmers, allowing the seed to go to waste at the farm.

According to the farmers, the government should be in a position to buy cashew just like cocoa. Many of the farmers have the intention to stop the cashew business since it is unrealistic.

64 kilos of cocoa is buying at GHC 800 while 100 kilos of cashew is buying at GHC 3. This comparison has killed the interest of several cashew farmers in Ghana.

The question many keep asking is why the government of Ghana can buy cashew like cocoa.
