Police officers who were not promoted by the Ghana Police Service have filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General, the Ghana Police Service, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) accusing them of acting arbitrarily and unfairly.
The police officers assert that because of the service’s study leave with pay policy, they are entitled to promotions after finishing their degrees but have not yet received them several months later.
“All the Plaintiffs applied for the 2017/2018 Academic Year Study Leave with a pay program for Tertiary Courses ranging between two (2) to four (4) years.
Each and every Plaintiff having qualified were selected and made to enter into the requisite Bond to serve the Police Service upon completion of their various courses for at least Five (5) years upon condition that the Bond would be entreated when breached.”
In the first place, what prevents the IGP to ensure that qualified personnel are promoted? This is very common among several professions in Ghana.
