Could another Manchester City player be on his way to Arsenal this summer, as Pep Guardiola tells João Cancelo his time in Manchester is over? fans of man city see this fallacy.

Joao Cancelo was seen as a key part of the Manchester City side that won the league title in 2021/22, however, we’re now a year on and no one would have expected the situation he finds himself in now.

He was a regular starter even this season under Pep Guardiola until January, when the Manchester City boss decided to play with four centre-backs instead of his traditional two inverted full-backs. This meant João Cancelo found himself on the bench for the majority of games leading up to the January transfer window where things turned sour and he was sent out on loan to Bayern Munich for the remainder of the season.

Joao Cancelo saw himself as one of City’s best players so once Pep Guardiola told him about the change in system and the player wasn’t happy to be sitting on the bench, the pair fell out and that doesn’t look like changing with the Portuguese right-back reportedly being told to look for a new club this summer.

According to Football Insider, Joao Cancelo has been told his ‘Man City career is over’ following a fall out with Pep Guardiola, with Arsenal interested in signing the player this summer.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add another full-back to his squad after Takehiro Tomiyasu’s consistent injury concerns and Kieran Tierney potentially on his way out of the club. Cancelo ticks many boxes and knows the Arsenal manger well.

After signing Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City last summer, Joao Cancelo would be the third player to follow Mikel Arteta to Arsenal. Ilkay Gundogan is also an option the Gunners are looking at this summer, if he is to leave Manchester City as a free agent.

Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports recently revealed that while Arsenal are keen on the defender, they are yet to come to an agreement with City over his valuation: “Arsenal also in the market to strengthen in defence and at full-back. It’s another Man City player they are interested in – Joao Cancelo.”

“Bayern Munich didn’t take up the option to buy him on a permanent basis. He’s still got two years left on his contract with Man City, so he won’t come cheap.”

“The early suggestions are that there is a gap in valuation in early verbal talks between the two clubs about what Man City would want and what Arsenal would be prepared to offer.”
