In a recent report, The Outcomes International in Ghana and the Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI) in the UK jointly released, it is predicted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will easily win with 80.8% of the vote in the general elections of 2024.
The vision and competence are the two main characteristics used by the study to determine the priority of delegates. It uses computerized assessed telephone interviewing (CAT) technology in a quantitative research methodology to assess applicants.
With a 1 percent margin of error and a 95% confidence level, a minimum sample size of 9.248 PSE was established. However, 9,300 delegates were interviewed in order to increase accuracy. The study used multistage probability proportional to size sampling (PPS) with implicit stratification. Fieldwork for this study took place between October 10, 2023, and October 20, 2023. Young married males with little to no formal education made up the majority of the delegates.
Additionally, it was found that Dr. Bawumia receives 10.4% of the delegates’ support, followed by Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto with 1.1% and Francis Addai-Nimoh with 0.4%. However, 7.3% of the delegates remain undecided, which means that any shift in support is unlikely.
The research report goes on to say that Dr. Bawumia’s vision for the party, his capacity to carry out his vision and mandate, and his potential to win the NPP in the general elections of 2024 were among the factors that influenced the delegates’ decision to choose him.
On November 4, 2023, the NPP will host its National Delegates Conference in order to formally select its flagbearer for the next General Elections. Kennedy Agyapong was Dr. Bawumia’s closest rival in the party’s superdelegates election, and his success was consistent with the expectations of credible research organizations.
In the event that the government functions well and the party remains united after the primaries, the research also emphasizes the party’s high possibility of putting an end to the eight-year cycle. This analysis indicates that if Dr. Bawumia wins the flagbearership race in the upcoming elections, the NPP will benefit greatly.
