The Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has come under fire from former President John Dramani Mahama, who claims that by implementing the Ghana Beyond Aid program and abandoning the 40-year national development plan, Ghana has become a “beggar nation”.
Mahama argued against the success of the Ghana Beyond Aid initiative at the 9th Ghana CEO Network Business Cocktail.
He said, “Sadly, the current government has made Ghana into a beggar nation by discarding the 40-year plan and replacing it with a Ghana Beyond Aid plan.”
The former president, John Mahama put forth his alternate plan, the “24-hour economy,” which he describes as a carefully considered project. He clarified, saying, “The NDC’s 2020 People’s Manifesto included a well-thought-out description of the 24-hour economic idea on page 105. Its foundations are found in the 40-year National Development Plan that the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) created during my administration.
The NDC Flag bearer underlined that the government is to blame for Ghana’s current economic woes.
He said, “There’s no denying that this government is to blame for the economic disaster we are currently experiencing. But we cannot allow the current state of affairs to persist for the benefit of Ghanaians and the future of our beloved nation.
John Mahama also expressed concerns about the 2024 budget, claiming it imposes burdensome taxes that harm businesses.
Despite the challenges, he remains optimistic and committed to implementing his 24-hour economic plan to revive the economy if elected president.
