According to Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the ranking member of Parliament’s Health Committee, out of the 307 ambulances that Nana Akufo-Addo acquired and put into service in 2020, 91 are not now in service.

While roughly 79 have fully failed, he claims that 12 others have been in accidents and are therefore not in excellent condition.

Mr. Akandoh asserted during a discussion on the Ministry of Health’s budget estimations. He lamented the National Ambulance Service’s lack of money, despite the organization having seen an increase in cases over the previous several years.

“At the time they appeared before us in 2023, the National Ambulance Service had recorded only 27,000 cases, compared to not less than 41,000 cases in 2022.”

Allocated GH¢67 million, Mr. Speaker, of which only GH¢20 million have been based on what I’ve seen in the report. Speaker, of the 307 ambulances that were brought into this nation in 2020, roughly 79 have entirely malfunctioned and are not in use, and roughly 12 have been in collisions. Four years from now, there won’t be any ambulances left in the fleet because, all told, 91 of the vehicles are not in use.

At Accra on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, President Nana Akufo-Addo turned on the ambulances at the Black Star Square forecourt.
