The Northern region’s Tamale native, chef Failatu Abdul-Razak, has broken the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. For ten days, she cooked for 227 hours, feeding over 200 orphans and vulnerable people. Irish chef Alan Fisher just set a new cook-a-thon record, but Nigerian chef Hilda Baci claims she still holds the title.

However, Guinness World Records’ recent statement on its official website revealed that Alan Fisher has surpassed Hilda Baci’s previous record, setting a new astonishing cooking marathon record of 119 hours and 57 minutes at his restaurant in Japan.

With a cooking time of 144 hours and 20 minutes, chef Failatu Abdul-Razak has surpassed Ugandan chef Dorcus Mirembe, also referred to as Mama D, in the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.

The Modern City Hotel in Tamale, Northern Region, hosted Chef Faila’s effort to shatter the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual from January 1, 2024, to January 10, 2024.

Among other things, chef Failatu Abdul-Razak prepared regional cuisine from Ghana.

Amidst drumming and dancing, hundreds of people from Tamale and its surrounding areas flocked to the Modern City Hotel in Tamale to watch Chef Faila smash the record.

Prominent delegates from the Overlord of Dagbon Ndan Ya Naa, politicians, and Army Chiefs were present on the final day of the culinary marathon.

People like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, former First Lady Lordina Mahama, politicians, Members of Parliament, and Ghanaian celebrities were among those who enthusiastically supported Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak’s cooking marathon.

However, Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak’s management has disclosed that an after-party would be held to honour her and express gratitude to Ghanaians for their tremendous support, which enabled her to finish successfully.
