Ghanaians are not seeing the same country that former President John Mahama handed over to President Nana Akufo Addo in 2017, he asserts. Mr. Mahama asserted that under Nana Akufo Addo’s direction, the nation’s economy crashed and its debt levels skyrocketed.
The past eight years, according to him, have been a period of hardship and poverty when a select few have amassed a fortune for their benefit. Declaring that the NDC has done better than the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the nearly eight years that the NPP has been in power and that the NPP has not contributed to the development of the Asuogyaman constituency, Mahama was taking a clear shot at the NPP.
John Dramani Mahama made this declaration at Frankadua in the Asuogyaman district on Tuesday, the first day of his two-day Building Ghana campaign tour in the Eastern region. Citing recent political events, Mahama commended Assin North voters for resisting alleged attempts at vote buying and cautioned Asuogyaman citizens against succumbing to similar tactics.
He advised them not to be intimidated and stressed the importance of voting against what he called the abuse of public cash for vote buying. President Mahama gave the public assurance that the NDC would emphasize economic recovery if it were elected, ensuring that all residents enjoy prosperity.
Mr. Mahama promised that the next NDC government would collaborate with private investors to revive the textile industry and create other plants in response to chiefs expressing concerns about Juapong Textile Limited’s failure. Additionally, he described intentions to boost Asuogyaman’s economy and create jobs by utilizing the Tema-Akosombo train infrastructure, which was initiated under the previous NDC term.
Mr. Mahama further assured fisherman of the depoliticization of the premix fuel industry and the restoration of outboard motor subsidies. Using the occasion, Chief of Atimpoku Nana Kwaku Budu urged President Mahama to construct poor roads in the area whenever he assumes office in 2025.
