Some youth of the Nkoranza Bonsu in the Bono East region are at large after attacking two VRA workers for disconnection of long outstanding debts of their client in Bonsu. According to the Bono East VRA regional manager, John Mumuni Tayari, some of the youth in the Nkoranza catchment area severally attacked their workers when exercising their duties and some ended up in the hospital.

According to John Mumuni Tayari, it took the intervention of the Bono East regional NIB officer to save the VRA workers. The VRA enforcing team disconnected the entire Bonsu farming community from the power grid for four days.

A team from the Bono East region, including the VRA, NEDCO and the Bono regional PURC manager, Patric Nana Osei Yaw and other officers visited the traditional chiefs and the queen mothers of Bonsu to settle the matter. However, the VRA Boss, John Yayeri pleaded with Nananom of Bonus to present the suspects who brutally assaulted their workers to a round table.

John Mumuni Tayari stated that bills are to be paid monthly, but they had considered the rural communities because of their financial challenges, and the people had taken that for granted. He suggested those who are ready for the pre-paid metres can apply, but who suffers and who gains?

THE PURC manager of the Bono region, Patrick Nana Osei Yaw in his address cautioned the youth to desist from attacking government officials on duty. He urged the youth to use proper negotiation channels with the authorities instead of physically attacking, which eventually ended in a total blackout for 4 days creating inconveniences affecting innocent ones.

He, further, pleaded with the VRA to be cautious when dealing with their clients because no one can be perfectly right. He said some clients have genuine cases to be taken into consideration about their bills to pay.

The PURC manager of the Bono region, Patrick Nana Osei Yaw said their doors are open to the public for any challenge related to bills.

The chief of Bonus, Nana Opoku Ware II and her queen mother, Nana Agyeiwaa Ampoma II have assured to bring the suspect to book. They gave assurance that such misconduct would never happen again.
