Peru gave Argentina a scare when Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United scored an own goal four minutes in to give the reigning Copa America and World Cup champions their first-ever goal against them.
Messi, however, equalized the score eight minutes later when the Argentina captain scored into an empty net after goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen cleared the ball directly into his path.
After the break, Lautaro Martinez, who ended as Serie A’s top scorer the previous season, scored his second goal after an assist from Messi to give Argentina the lead. Martinez’s penalty came in the 39th minute.
He said ”we are fighting for everything, including the title,” TyC Sports reported.

In the 77th minute, Messi scored his second goal following an incredible assist from Ángel Di María, the replacement.
From June 20 to July 14, the tournament will take place in the United States. Coach Lionel Scaloni’s team will play their opening match against Canada on Thursday, followed by group matches against Chile and Peru.
“We’re going to keep trying to do our best, we still want to keep winning titles,” said Messi.
