The Akwamuhene of the Techiman traditional area, Nana Owusu Gyare, has elevated his annual January dinner into a massive celebration of unity, hosting over 300 adults and children at the NOG Hotel. What began as a modest gathering has grown over the past 15 years into a beloved tradition, drawing crowds eager for communal joy, shared meals, and strengthened bonds.
By 5:30 p.m., half the seats were already filled, with families arriving in high spirits. As the clock struck 7 p.m., the venue transformed into a vibrant hub with no breathing space left; guests packed shoulder-to-shoulder amid laughter and lively conversations. Attendees savoured a feast tailored to every palate: steaming plates of local delicacies, refreshing drinks, and an array of spicy meats that ignited the senses and sparked delight.
Nana Owusu Gyare, the driving force behind this enduring event, has consistently used the dinner to promote unity, happiness, and mutual love among his people. “This is our time to come together as one family,” he emphasized, reflecting on 15 years of bridging divides through hospitality.
The evening’s highlight came from the Queenmother of the Akwamu royal family, Nana Saah Adomako Ameyaa I. She lavished praise on Nana Gyare for his unwavering care and support for the needy, urging all present to emulate his generosity. Extending the Akwamuhene’s warm greetings, she called for continued harmony in the community.
No old age feast would be complete without musical legend Nana Amakye Dede, whose electrifying performance had adults swaying and children cheering. His timeless highlife tunes elevated the night, reminding everyone of the rich cultural tapestry that binds them.
As plates emptied and voices rose in song, the dinner reaffirmed Techiman’s spirit of togetherness, setting a joyful tone for the new year.
