India’s highly ranked Medanta Hospital, New Delhi, has opened two specialised urology facilities in Ghana to tackle rising cases of prostate anomalies (PA) and male infertility. The move was announced by Dr Manish Bakshi, a Medanta representative, during the Ghana Urologists’ Annual General Meeting at the Eusbett Hotel in Sunyani, Bono East Region.
Dr Bakshi urged Ghanaian urologists to partner with Medanta Hospital branches in Ghana to improve early diagnosis and management of PA and infertility among men. He cited data showing that 58% of infertility cases in the country involve men, compared with 42% in women, underscoring the need to shift attention toward male reproductive health. He stressed that early detection remains the most effective strategy to reduce the burden of these conditions.
Medanta now operates two well-equipped hospitals in Kumasi and Sunyani, stocked with standard medications and diagnostic tools priced to be affordable for average Ghanaians. Dr Bakshi said the facilities are designed to provide comprehensive care, from initial screening to advanced treatment, while also serving as referral hubs for complex PA cases that may be transferred to Medanta’s flagship centre in New Delhi at reasonable costs.
Highlighting the scale of the challenge, Dr Bakshi noted that approximately 1.4 million men globally are affected by infertility, a figure he described as a serious public health concern demanding urgent attention. He reiterated Medanta’s mission of delivering good, patient-centered care and announced that patients requiring PA and infertility-related drugs can now access them.
The initiative has been welcomed by Ghanaian urologists, who see it as a timely response to longstanding gaps in male-focused reproductive services and advanced urological care in Ghana’s interior regions.
