Access to safe drinking water is still a major challenge confronting several communities in the Bono East region even though there have been some interventions by various governments. Communities such as Nkoranza- Pruso in the Nkoranza South District have heavily depended on unwholesome water from Pru River and other unorthodox sources for domestic use.

Nkyeremu News has learnt that the population of mainly farmers have no choice but to wrestle with cattle to get water from Pru River for daily use.

Even though water from the river at a cursory look appeared to be contaminated, women were being compelled to walk for two kilometres each time with their children to draw water. Community members say, their children have complained severally of waterborne diseases but there was nothing they could do.

Osuman Amidu expressed worry about their situation and appealed to government, benevolent individuals as well as Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) to assist in getting potable water for the community.

Another serious challenge that has confronted the people of Nkoranza- Pruso was the nuisance of Fulani herdsmen. Ashetu Yakubu recounts apart from their water situation, the cattle always destroy crops in the farms.
