The Dormaa forestry commission has arrested five illegal chainsaw operators in the Mpameso forest reserve at Santaso portion near Kwadwomo krom in the Dormaa west district of the Bono region.
The five were arrested by the forest service Taskforce together with the security service when suspects were operating in the forest at night.
The suspects includes Sarfo Louis – 20 years, Hamza Mohamed- 19 years, Appiah Gideon – 22, Shadrack Teteh – 30 years, and Stephen Kollan – 23 years.
The acting assistant manager of Dormaa forest Division, Mr Atiogbe Richard in an interview said, they had a tip-off that the illegal chainsaw operators have invaded in the forest and were operating.
He said, forest task force with the assistance of the security personnel managed to arrest all the five at the night.
Mr Atiogbe Richard appealed to the chiefs, assembly members and individuals residing along the forest to help fight against illegal chainsaw operations.
The five are currently on court bail with the amount of ¢ 30, 000 and two casualties each pending the completion of investigation and possible prosecution.
