Research conducted by the women integrated development organization WIDO indicates Ghanaians living in rural communities are been denied social interventions. The most important ones are health, education, roads school, power, and potable water. Their research indicates, that about 95% of rural people face these challenges. The program manager of the WIDO, Philemon Dong- Uuro said.

He says their recent information gathered indicates, that the rural communities did not benefit from the three months covid19 free water and electricity. Philemon Dong says they expected the government to have supplied the rural people with free kerosine in place of power and some amount for their water.

He says the people in the towns and cities have already benefited from the social interventions. Philemon says it is a must that the government has to switch immediate attention to rural communities that hardly make ends meet.

He hinted that the few communities with CHPS compounds and schools lack trained professionals. He says these challenges mentioned above had denied many professionals accepting posts in rural communities.

Philemon pleaded with the government to engage the venerable and PWDs for a holistic development otherwise all the time the gap between the rich and the poor will be widening

The main objective of the WIDO is to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor through interventions. WIDO established in 2004 has enrolled over 65,000 PWDs. He says they have held several forums and training sessions including snail, mushroom, and beekeeping. According to Philemon, many of their trained farmers are now well established in the upper west and the Bono east regions.
