Renowned heart surgeon and former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has been arrested by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The arrest of Dr Frimpong Boateng is baseless and shameful, how should the former minister of environment, science, and technology be arrested over named persons championing illegal mining?
The special prosecutor should have rather arrested the suspected persons named by Dr Frimpong Boateng. Ghanaians have lost interest in the OSP due to this unfortunate arrest. Again, the arrest of Dr. Boateng will put fear in Ghanaians to name the top illegal miners who have destroyed all rivers and the forest in Ghana.
The arrest is said to be linked to an ongoing investigation into corruption-related activities.
The OSP’s actions are reportedly connected to their inquiries into the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) and Frimpong-Boateng’s involvement.
Earlier this month, the OSP had extended an invitation to the professor, leading to his subsequent arrest. However, he was swiftly released on bail of GH¢2 million.
The OSP could have officially invited Dr Boateng to their office for an investigation and NOT to arrest him.
The OSP should rather go to habours to study what happens there, I guess, they need to be arrested and not someone helping to fight corruption and illegal mining. His arrest is the hottest talking point in Ghana. Ghanaians have lost trust in the OSP.
