The Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah has directed Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in Accra to protect the buffer zone from encroaching.

The Deputy Minister also charged the Assemblies to strictly enforce sanitation regulations and building codes to help curb the incidences of flooding in the capital city.

He made the call during an inspection tour of ongoing desilting works being carried out by the seventeen (17) Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMDAs) under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project.

The Assemblies the Deputy Minister inspected their projects were; La Nkwantanang Madina, Adentan, La Dade-Kotopon and Ga East Municipalities.

This adverse behaviour, he indicated, contribute to the perennial flooding in Accra.

The GARID Project aims at improving drainage, solid waste management, and provision of infrastructure in priority flood-prone informal settlements within the Odaw River basin.

The Deputy Minister who doubles as a Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Mr Adjei Mensah Korsah charged the Assemblies to pull down structures on the buffer zone to protect human life from flooding.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Adentan, Daniel Nii – Noi Adumuah thanked the GARID Project for providing the grant them to use for desilting and drainage improvement works.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work to curb incidences of flooding in the municipality.

However, the Municipal Chief Executive for La Dade-Kotopon, Solomon Kotey Nikoi expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work to curb incidences of flooding in the municipality. He assures the Deputy Minister to pull down all structures along the buffer zone to protect lives.
