BEMCOM farms is a job training centre where hundreds of people have passed through to become successful farmers, many mushroom farmers near Cote D’ Ivoire had their training session at BEMCOM training centre. The principal of BEMCOM farms in Techiman of the Bone East region, SY Apiiga, former regional director of agriculture, told nkyeremu news.
BEMCOM established in 2001 was only into mushroom cultivation, now, they are into quail rearing, glass cutters, sheep, goats, and pigs including beekeeping. BEMCOM has now become a training centre for schools, individuals and traditional farmers.
SY Apiiga says, BEMCOM has collaborated with the German insemination expert team led by Dr Martin, a German specialist in pigs’ artificial insemination (AI) to help boost the breeding system of pigs. 20 pig farmers in the Bono East region have benefited for free.
In his one-month insemination exercise, he took the farmers through all the processes of pig farming. He said well-balanced feed enhances good growth, and added that the best breed is the key.
The German animals’ artificial insemination expert team leader, Dr Martin, says their German Rotary Club is going to support Techiman Holy Family Hospital and agriculture in 2024. He said BEMCOM farms will benefit from their agricultural support.
BEMCOM training centre produces large-scale mushrooms and compost. The training centre is also engaged in honey extraction and packaging.
