Christmas is an annual event that takes place on December 25th and is commemorated by billions of people worldwide as a religious and social holiday honouring the birth of Jesus Christ. In many nations, including Ghana, it is a public holiday that is religiously observed by most Christians. How much do you know about Ghanaian Christmas?

Christmas celebrations in the early days were full of fans, happiness and entertainment.  Father Christmas and children used to go for krakas and money, which was the order of the celebration. The neighbourhood gives the children food and drinks to make merry.

Three days to Christmas, there were Bronya Dua on all the streets decorated with balloons. All these celebrations are dead. They are dead because parents are scared their children will be used for sakawa. Gone are the days. Economic challenges have also contributed immensely to the killing of Xmas celebrations in Ghana. We have to commend the Muslims for still maintaining their way of celebrating their occasions and traditions.

Ghanaians celebrate Christmas with various events starting on December 20 and lasting through the first week of January. During this period, many people go to see friends and family who are spread out across the nation.

How do you see Christmas celebrations of late?
