Sadly, we have scholars with doctorates in mechanical engineering who cannot fix their car batteries, they wear big ties and political suits calling themselves book doctors. It is time Ghanaians switch much attention to practicals instead! Dr. Kwadwo Sarfo Kantanka has proven that book knowledge alone is nothing.

Apostle Dr. Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the creator of the Kantanka Group of Companies, founded Kantanka Automobile in 1994. The renowned scientist and engineer had been conducting diligent studies into technology, the environment, and food science for about 14 years at this point.

Apostle Safo is a physicist, chemist, evangelist, innovator, biologist, agriculturalist, and philanthropist. His mission is to rescue Africa from the shackles of slavery so that it can stand on its own two feet economically. He’ll do this by empowering Africa through science and technology.

Growing up in the Ashanti Region’s Bekwai, he was always passionate in science and technology and wanted to explore and hone his skills in those areas. He continued his study at the Ghana Technical Institute in Kuma and then spent three years working at the Volta Aluminum Company as a welder.

Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo did not invent the Kantanka automobiles initially. Because of his prior training and passion for music, he first built electrical drums equipped with brain units, loudspeakers, amplifiers, pre-amps, and other components. In addition, he created sewing and embroidery machines and a 26-inch flat-screen censor television that runs on human breath and can be switched off with a hand gesture.

In the Central Region of Ghana, in Gomoa Mpota, the Katanka automobile manufacturing industry was established in the late 1990s. In 1998, Apostle Safo began producing the “Katanka Saloon,” a car. The Cross Country 4-wheel Drive “Kantanka Onantefo I” and Onantefo II in 2006 and 2007, respectively, and the 26-foot-long stretch limousine “Kantanka Obrempon” in 2007 were all produced by him. Kantanka became the first brand in Africa to achieve made-in-Ghana accreditation after achieving 30% of its car parts production in the country.

At first, the business could only make one automobile a year using hand-made tools. Kantanka was able to construct state-of-the-art facilities that increased their production capacity from one car per year to five cars per day before partnering with a Chinese company. To demonstrate to the rest of the world that Ghana is capable of matching its efforts, the Kantanka Group was committed to training professionals. The first Black President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, is credited with inspiring the company’s motto, “The Black man is capable of managing his affairs.” Consequently, it is also feasible to produce the vehicle that the African American drives.

Apostle won the title of “best scientist in Africa” in the most recent Marcus Garvey Ball and Banquet, which took place at the Swiss Spirit, Alisa Hoteln Accra. In the Science and Technology category, he overcame self-taught engineer Gideon Asare and Jamaican scientist Dr. Lawrence William to win Africa’s Best Scientist. His goal is to free Africa from the shackles of slavery and enable it to achieve economic independence. He would empower Africa through the use of science and technology. His opinions are in line with his passion for the advancement of Africa, which puts him in a position to win the award.
