Following the government’s warning to dissolve the Association, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the owner of Elmina Sharks Football Club, has called for a complete overhaul of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). If possible, creation of an entirely new organization!

Following the discovery of widespread corruption within the Association by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in his Number 12 undercover documentary—which, among other things, featured footage of GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi, referees, and some National Sports Authority officials accepting bribes—the government served notice to dissolve the GFA.

Dr Nduom thinks some are taking advantage of this to push for GFA stances, even though the GFA has now assembled a five-person committee to meet with the government to resolve the current impasse and develop a plan for long-lasting reforms.

Dr Nduom, whose company had supported the Ghana Premier League, stated on Facebook: “Now is not the time to lobby the government or the clubs for GFA positions.” Those attempting to establish temporary GFA executive committees must cease their efforts. The resignation of Kwesi Nyantakyi did not bring an end to the issues facing Ghanaian football. We require a total makeover, possibly even the creation of an entirely new organization!

Due to the controversy, Mr. Nyantakyi resigned, and the government ordered that any officials found to have engaged in corrupt activities be reported to the police for additional inquiry and suitable action.
