The names of Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, an economist, Eric Opoku, a member of parliament for Asunafo, retired police commissioner Nathan Kofi Boakye, and former chief of staff to President Mahama were rumored to be among Mahama’s options. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s name seemed to be the front-runner for the running mate position.
In addition to serving as the University of Cape Coast’s vice-chancellor, Professor Opoku-Agyemang served as the ministry’s minister for education from 2013 to 2017. The NDC 2020 running mate has a PhD in English literature and has conducted ground-breaking humanities research, making her the first female vice-chancellor.
