Dutch Passport vs. PhD Debate: A Look at What Stars Have Said So Far was published on June 8, 2024. The reality is that no money no respect no matter the level of your education. The decision of whether to pursue a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) or a Dutch passport in the modern world has been the subject of intense discussion among the internet community. Celebrities have weighed in on the social media debate, expressing which would be better for achieving their academic objectives—a PhD or a Dutch passport. Some claim that a Dutch passport is more desirable than a PhD because many Ghanaians with master’s and PhDs are still jobless. After 35 years, some graduates are still jobless.

It is a fact that the few who are employed receive not more than 200 dollars as their monthly salary, how can you compare this to someone who received more than 20,000 dollars in a month?

Some people think comparing a Dutch passport to a PhD is foolish because each has a different function in life. Actor and politician John Dumelo from Ghana said of X, “A PhD and a Dutch passport are not at all comparable.” These are two distinct goals and objectives.

Socialite Efia Odo questioned the worth of having a strong education if it doesn’t lead to success in the real world. She questioned X, “Why are so many PhD holders in Ghana hungry?” In an interview with Starr FM, Singer Sister Afia said she would choose a Dutch passport because of its benefits in the current economic situation. When one becomes a Dutch citizen, he can still pursue his education to any level with less stress as compared to Ghana.

Professor Kobby Mensah of the University of Ghana Business School made comments that sparked the dispute, claiming that a PhD is not appropriate for people who are unemployed or in extreme need of money.

“The hungry should not pursue a PhD. It is not for employment, nor is it for business ventures.  PHD is just for fame”.
