Wenchi in the Bono region on Friday 21st turned into shooting ground during the Coronation of the Wenchimanhene, Osagyefo Ampem Annye Amoampong Tabrako III and the Enstoolment of Nana Odensie Frema Tartuo III former Ghana’s Ambassador to Denmark from 2017 to 2021 has now being enstooled as the Queen Mother of the Sofoase Yefiri and Nkwanduano Yefiri Royal Families in the Wenchi Traditional Area.
The large number of the Macho Men providing security for the Wenchmanhene overpowered over 20 police personnel and entered the premises of late Prof. Busia’s Residence and started shooting from all angles to scatter the police, the media and the two Royal Families immediately after the Queen Mother had been enstooled.
The people gathered at the late Prof Busia’s Residence, including the police and the media, took to their heels. The police being deployed there without weapons was needless. The top police officials came and intervened before the Metcho Men with the guns left the Busia Residence. All the same, the two feudal custodians of the land were permitted to engage in their outdoor ceremonies. Who erred and who was right? Was it the authorities?
It was unfortunate that the police present were armed less, not a single one of them had an AK47 whilst the Ahemfie Yefiri Omanhene had more than 20 Matcho Men with the Pump Action Guns shooting from all sides. It would have been a total bloodshed if the Sofoase Yefiri and Nkwanduano Yefiri Royal Families had also revenged similarly.
The Sofoase Yefiri and the Nkwanduano Yefiri press release notified the police that they had petitioned the authorities to suspend the Coronation of Mr Kwadwo Abrefa Damoah who claimed as the Wenchimanhene but has no base and justification, the spokesperson, Nana K.A busia Jr said. The Safoase Yefiri and Nkwaduano Yefiri Families declared the 21st to enstool their Queen Mother of Wenchi. Perhaps, this nearly called for the bloodshed.
Still, people in authority must call the two parties for an amicable solution to ensure peace in Wenchi. On record, countless land litigations in Wenchi may trigger one day!
