The Dompemhene of the Sisirease Royal Family of Wenchi Traditional Area in the Bono region, Nana Owusu Yeboah Afari has called for an amicable solution over chieftaincy and land disputes denying the progress and developments in the Wenchi Traditional Area. Nana Owusu Yeboah Afari says the people of Wenchi have been blessed with a high class of personalities both in politics and learned people in authorities who could have chalked for the successes of Wenchi. Still, mistrust and misunderstanding had denied their glories. Nana said this when the Akwamu people of Wenchi were celebrating the annual Yam Festival.
Nana said chieftaincy and land litigations pending in the law courts are the key factors hampering their developments. He says when the truth is told, peace and order will pave the way for more developments.
Nana Owusu Yeboah Afari has pleaded with the authorities of the Wenchi municipality to address the girl-child school dropouts as a matter of emergency. According to Nana, most of the school dropouts are due to early pregnancies and poor parental care. Nana Owusu Yeboah Afari has promised to support the needy but brilliant students.
There are some areas like the Wenchi Tomato Factory- TOMANCAN and the Animal Husbandry land, Akrobi Irrigation Land including the Wenchi Agricultural College been encroached upon.
The Town and Country Planning Department and the Wenchi municipal assembly have no power to release any piece of land, The traditional chiefs’ are the landowners when it comes to the land issues. Any other way is wrong without their notice.
Nana Yeboah Afari believed that all is not yet lost, Nananom can still get united to defend their lands in accordance manner.
