The Twafohene of the Wenchi Traditional Area in the Bono region has called on the authorities to enforce girl-child education to bridge the gap between their male counterparts. Higher education will help reduce the number of early teenage pregnancies and marriages in the Wenchi Traditional Area. Nana Akora Tuah Adu Twum said this when the people of Wenchi Akwamu celebrated their yearly yam festival. The Theme, Enforcement of Girl-Child Education, is welcome news.
The theme was not a surprise because Nana Akora Tuah owns the Liberty International School in Techiman of the Bono East region and understands its value. Nana, addressing the people, says education is the paramount key to everything and challenges everyone to take it as a hallmark.
Twafohene, Nana Akora Tuah says well-educated females have several job opportunities compared to males. Nana Akora Tuah is making headway in soliciting funding to help the brilliant but needy ones attain higher education.
The guest speaker of the occasion, Gloria Aboagye Nuamah, counselling psychologist, and guidance counselling coordinator of the Wenchi municipal education addressed the need for girl-child education in the modern technological world. She says, many people without education background will soon face out and cannot compete in any work.
Mrs. Gloria Aboagye Nuamah pleaded with both parents and students to take Technical Education with all seriousness. She says physical training paves the way for more job opportunities and cannot be underrated. She added that higher education opens up more job avenues. She was on point that, no one can meet her desired dreams with education.
The chairman of the occasion, Nana Yeboah Afari, Dompenhene of Wenchi Traditional Area has assured to assist the needy but the brilliant girl child in the Wenchi Traditional Area. Nana says several ladies dropped out due to financial challenges. Nana Yeboah Afari is optimistic about making funding for such school-going girls. He however pleaded with parents to pay more attention to their wards’ education at all costs.
