The Techiman Traditional Council has pleaded with the people of Techiman in the Bono East region to remain calm after Otumfour Osei Tutu II security allegedly used sophisticated weapons believed to be AK 47 in the shooting of two people which occurred on Monday, December 2nd 2024 after Otumfour and his entourage were returning from Nkoranza after attending Nkoranza Queenmother’s funeral celebration.

Dr Killian Ninnang, a medical officer of trauma and orthopaedic in the Techiman Holy Family Hospital says the gunshot victim, Owusu Andrews, a community police was immediately rushed to the emergency ward due to the severe blood flow and all the needed medical attention was given. According to Dr. Killian, the victim was hit by a stray bullet, with a single bullet. He explained further that the bullet penetrated through the left lower tibia bone with an entry and exit point. The following day, he was sent to the theatre for an operation. His explanation indicates the early medication has saved the leg from getting worse.  The doctor says, another victim Nana Akumfi Ameyaw, a 17-year-old boy, was discharged since his gunshot was not all that severe. Dr. Killians confirmed that Owusu Andrews is responding to treatment but will remain in bed for a while. Watch full video here

Another person who was brutally molested and mishandled in the hands of the Otumfour’s security personnel is Prince Yaw Adu. Prince Yaw Adu speaking off camera to Nkyeremu News says he was told by one of the Techiman police commanders to calm down the youth and not retaliate against the misconduct of the Otumfour guys. He laments that he received several brows from the police and the military officers accompanying Otumfour.  Sources say, one of the Otumfoue’s men was openly smoking a substance and said he who claims to be a man should come near him. Perhaps, the Otumfour’s security suspected that the people of Techiman would get revenge when coming back. This might have compelled them to shoot from all angles and rendered two persons in the gunshot incident.

The question that people keep asking is, Otumfour and his people had no mission in Techiman, so why should they stop? And for what reason?

Techiman Traditional Council has described the shooting incident as barbaric and unfortunate in this era. The spokesperson of the Techiman Traditional Council, Nana Asa Akompani the Krontihene of the Techiman Traditional Area says, they will apply all possible legal means to bring the suspect to justice since no one has the right to open live fire in town while not on a battlefield. In the press release, Nana Asa Akompani says the Traditional Chiefs of Techiman and Ashante Kingdom are on good terms, but the shooting incident cannot be treated as a friendly issue.

Nana Akompani says a few of the youth who could no longer control their anger after two innocent people had been gunned down and rushed to the hospital also started to stone some of the cars due to frustration. Despite the bitterness, agony and pains, Nana Akompanin, the Kyidomdomhene and also the chief of Techiman- Krobo has pleaded with the people of Techiman to remain calm. The chiefs of the Techiman Council have been visiting the victim at the hospital, the one discharged. Watch the full video here
