The Greening Ghana project would have been the best policy, but it is sad the authorities who engage in the Greening Ghana project are the very people who steer the affairs of illegal mining. How can the centre hold? The politicians and the landowners who lead the afforestation projects are the same people championing the timber exportation industry.
Is it not a pity that trees like Odum, and Mahogany were distributed to northern Ghana for cultivation? Nature, knowing well that such forest trees cannot do well, did not permit them in the north. Greening Ghana project failed to honour this simple principle. At last, all the seedlings died prematurely. It is a fact that over 95 percent of the seedlings planted did not survive
There are several schools in Ghana that cannot boast of a single seedling that survived because of poor monitoring and supervision. There is no farmer that will engage in such a poor venture. Our politicians only engage in the afforestation project to enrich themselves and nothing more.
This is a worrying situation!
